Kings Canyon Hitch Hiking

2007 Jul 15 01:13 by Jakub

The plan for today was to hitch from Curtain Springs to Kings Canyon, do a hiking loop, and hitch back. That’s 400km of driving with 4 potential hitches, and 4 hours of hiking in between. Ewa felt a bit uneasy about making it back in one day, but I pushed ahead and made sure we woke up earlier . We were standing on Lasseter Highway outside of Curtain Springs by 8am. By 9am we were dropped off by a local Aussie on Luritja Rd junction. By 9:15 we were picked up again by a really cool French couple (Laurent & Amelie) and their outgoing Aussie Melbourne friend – Kent – craving conversation :). They were on route to Kings Canyon as well, except for a shorter walk. Along the one and a half hour drive, they changed their minds however to do the longer 4hr walk with us instead. Woohoo. We got so well together, they gave us a ride on the way back to Lasseter Highway. We caught another ride with two local women and were back in our camping spot by 5:30pm making couscous with onions, carrot, tomatoes, garlic and sauce … mmm. Thank You Laurent, Amelie and Kent!!!
